An
overview of our reading programs
St.
Anne students have the opportunity to read from two book lists sponsored by
the Texas Library Association. These lists are the Texas Bluebonnet Award
reading program and the Texas Lone Star Reading List.
The
Texas Bluebonnet Award reading program was established in 1979 to encourage
Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop
powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. The award process
provides librarians, teachers, parents, and writers with insight into young
students reading preferences. It further affords an opportunity to honor and
encourage imaginative authors who create books with high appeal to children.
The program is a project of the Texas Library Association, and is co-sponsored
by the Children’s Round Table and the Texas Association of School Libraries.
This reading program is designed for students in grades three through six.
The
Texas Lone Star Reading List is for grades six through eight. The purpose of
TLSRL is to promote reading of current, entertaining, and quality literature
from a variety of genres. With the varied genres there is opportunity for all
readers to select books to read. The program is a project of the Texas Library
Association, and is co-sponsored by the Young Adult Round Table.
The
Accelerated Reader Program
St. Anne Catholic School began the Accelerated Reader Program in 1998. It is a computer-based reading program that is used as a diagnostic tool to check students' reading skills. This program is offered to 2nd grade through 8th grade.
